It is with great sadness that I heard about the passing of Winfield Hartlin yesterday. Win served as a Radio Operator (RO) and as a Radio Inspector (RI) with the Federal Department of Transport (DOT) and the Federal Department of Communications (DOC). Many of those years were spent at the Acton Monitoring Station, west of Toronto. He also worked in Wiarton as a RO in 1963/1964. Win retired in December 1979 after over 34 years of service. Please scroll down the page to see his obituary.

The Halifax Amateur Radio Club (HARC) honoured Win Hartlin (VE1WIN) in December 2016 with a special “2016 Amateur of the Year” award for his long-standing and active support of the Halifax Club.

Win has for many years participated in the vast majority of HARC’s activities, including Field Day, the Down-East Flea Market, the DX Forum, the MS Bike Rides and Walks. Win was also a major generator of advertising revenue for the past three Maritime Callbooks. Most recently, Win has been a regular feature at the new “Wireless Room” at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, meeting and greeting visitors from around the world.
