A message from Hugh Clark to John Gilbert on 22 October 2012

Hi John:

I don't go back quite as far as you do. I started with DOT at Dorval Aeradio and then to the Marine station in the north end of Montreal in 1959, Hopedale/VOH in 1960, Schefferville/Knob Lake in 1961, Anticosti Island 1961/1965, Mont-Joli 1965-1973 with about a year on and off in Ottawa in 1972/1973 teaching radio operators, then on to Toronto with DOC. Some of that time on Anticosti and in Mont-Joli was as a technician (so called) as well as a radio operator. I put in about a year (1958/1959) as a RO as a ship operator as well.

A rather chequered career, eh? For what it's worth. 73

Mes condoléance à toute la famille. Hugh était plus qu'un ami pour moi, c'était mon parrain dans le domaine de la radio amateur. Je l'ai connu lorsqu'il travaillait à Mont-Joli. Bon repos Hugh

My condolences to the entire Clark family. I met Hugh at age 15, thanks to amateur radio. One day he introduced me to his workplace at the Mont-Joli airport. Since then, I knew exactly what I was going to do for a living. I left home at age 17 for a radio operator course in Ottawa. Lucky enough, he was one of my instructor there. Thanks Hugh. A man with a big heart and generosity. In my heart, you are the man who allowed me to enjoy a very successful career and i loved every minute of it for 36 years.
RIP Hugh, 73, till next qso....
