Howard Baker

1914 - 2013

 

BAKER, Howard - 99, Port Hawkesbury/Mulgrave and formerly of Newfoundland, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2013, in the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home.

 

Born in Elliston, NL, he was a son of the late William and Elizabeth (Cole) Baker.

 

Howard taught school up until 1939, when he went as a radio operator with the Ferry Command during World War II. He retired from Transport Canada after 35 years of service as an Electronics Technician.

 

Surviving are daughter, Dorothy O'Leary (Robert Welsh), Mulgrave; sons, Lorne (late Beryl), Etobicoke, Ont; William (Shirley), Gander NL; Howard (Ramona), Halifax; James (Shirley), Edmonton, AB; and Keith (Janice), Mississauga, Ont; grandchildren, Sean O'Leary, Andrew O'Leary, Daniel O'Leary, Roland Baker, Robin Baker, Richard Baker, Roxanna Baker, Dean Baker, Yvonne Churchill, Lori Skinner, Leanna Spencer and Lisa Baker; 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

 

He was predeceased by his wife, Edna (Martin) Baker; son, Douglas.

 

Special thanks to the staff at the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home for all their care and kindness to our dad.

 

Cremation has taken place. Funeral service was held on Saturday, May 11th at 10:00 A.M. from the Fraser Road United Church Gander, NL. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Gander.
